![]() ![]() Eren could have at any point deviated from the path he saw if he wanted to, but instead chose at every step along the way to keep going forward with his plan because it's what he wanted to do. He's a person who resorts to incredible acts of violence to solve problems and who places people he cares about above everything else, this has been his character ever since he was a child and slaughtered those criminals while calling them subhuman with seemingly 0 trauma from it. I've never really had an issue with the per-determination angle because my interpretation has always been that Eren - while incredibly conflicted about it - wanted to take that path, and would have even without his future knowledge though likely a lot less successfully given how much he seemingly relied on knowing stuff in advance to be able to make his plans.Įren has that flashback to his own birth when Armin is talking to him because the answer to "Why did you do this?" for him is "Because I was born into this world." - even if he doesn't acknowledge that to Armin. Manhattan's thing was actually fleshed out throughout the entire story instead of being shoved in at the last moment to try and retroactively make a genocide 'less bad.' The human players, those who truly mattered in the end, still had flaws, strengths, and legitimate convictions that ebbed and flowed (or didn't) based on the situations they found themselves in.ĭidn't hurt that Dr. ![]() Manhattan, but it was merely a single part of a greater whole and, most importantly, didn't change the 'primary question' of the narrative. Like, Watchmen included that stuff with Dr. Maybe I just have a sore spot for these kinds of stories, but to me a story, especially one with the themes and imagery AoT plays with, has failed when it decides to focus on vague, meaningless philosophical themes instead of actually saying something meaningful and pertinent to the human condition. #Manga shingeki no kyojin free#Like they just looked at a concept - in this case free will/ 'the cycle of violence' - and went "Yep. It all reeks of "I'm a 15 year old who's just learnt basic philosophy," to me. Same goes for the "the cycle of violence continues :( :( :(" stuff. It reminds me of (2013 game spoiler) Bioshock Infinite, which threw out any potentially pertinent themes about racism, colonialism, etc, and made the story into "OMG WOW THE MULTIVERSE THEORY IS SOOO COOL." The whole "pre-deterministic," thing is just so lame to me. ![]() But framing all of SnK as one of the bad ones, especially when it does so much right, in particular, next to the vast majority of other ambitious action-adventure series, seems pretty pointless. But that's in part because the show simply got worse towards the end, and it was probably less malice and more not knowing what the fuck to do with post-crystalization Annie. Though I'd say the same for the male cast. Now, one can still criticize SnK plenty, and it's hard to argue that the most important female characters didn't fall flat towards the end. That's legitimately refreshing, whether it should be or not. Nanaba are strong and don't get some "wow, so strong for a woman" shit for it constantly. ![]() Annie, Mikasa, and many other characters like e.g. That's just normal in this story, which tends to be a rarity. Hell, SnK doesn't even go out of its way to present it as something special that women can be regular soldiers and commandants all the same. It would've been so easy for the 3DGM to be just a thing for men due to requiring strong(er) muscles. SnK really isn't a piece of fiction that goes out of its way to shit on women, even if that doesn't mean, they don't come up short compared to some of the male characters anyway. When her death gets misconstrued as misogynistic and/or anti-gay messaging by the author I'm seriously not sure what to say. The Jaw Titan wielder's strange or coincidental desire to protect others and sacrifice their life for it was a neat minor element, too. latest Shingeki no Kyojin chapters download.I always thought freckles Ymir was a good character with a perfectly "fine" death.
